Continued doing with idea that one day God would send a righteous Solomon. |

Sarah Granger Kimball was married to Hyrum Kimball (competitor of Joseph, not a member, wouldn’t charge taxes to barges/ships at port, had own store, largest financial contribution to building temple - $500 because Sarah had son and asked how much he was worth. Said $1,000. Asked how much she earned - $500. She wanted to give it to temple.) Sarah had seamstress. Saw builders working on temple with tattered cloth. Had seamstress Margaret Cook sew cloth into shirts. Wanted to organize others doing the same thing so everyone would get shirts. Called “Benevolance Society.” Met March 4 in Sarah’s house. Asked Eliza R. Snow to write constitution and bylaws. Joseph said best constitution ever read. Told them to come to red brick store on 17th and be organized under Priesthood. 20 made it upstairs. Joseph nominated Emma as Pres. No one countered. Never set apart. |
